Siegfried Heim war bis zum Beginn seiner Rente Journalist und Gewerkschaftssekretär. In den vergangenen Jahren reiste er mehrmals nach Kenia, was ihn motivierte, Swahili zu lernen. Dabei unterstützten ihn in Deutschland lebende Kenianer*innen. Neben der Begeisterung für Sprache, Geschichte und Kultur Ostafrikas, hat er zwischenzeitlich auch ein wenig Geld in ein kleines Unternehmen seiner kenianischen Bekannten in Mombasa investiert.
