Chinese ink painting: — »Five Shades of Ink«

Englischsprachiger Kurs

Dozent: Hui Song

Material: - Some newspapers
- sturdy clothing that can get dirty.

This workshop offers an artistic and meditative introduction to classical Chinese and East Asian ink painting, focusing on the “five shades of ink” used to depict flowers, birds, insects, and fish. Participants explore how breath, movement, and intention flow together in each brushstroke — echoing the foundations of Zen painting and calligraphy in China, Japan, and Korea.

Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you will learn essential brush techniques, ink gradation, rhythm, and composition, working with traditional motifs such as orchids, bamboo, small birds, or fish. The course also highlights how literati and Zen aesthetics can inspire your own contemporary visual language.

No prior knowledge is required — only curiosity, openness, and the joy of working with brush and ink.

Hui Song, born in Confucius’ hometown, was immersed in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy from an early age. He trained professionally in Chinese painting and mounting techniques and holds degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine and International Business.
