Chinese ink painting: Animals — Advanced Techniques & Creative Dialogue

Englischsprachiger Kurs

Dozent: Hui Song

Material: - Some newspapers
- sturdy clothing that can get dirty.

This follow-up workshop (also open to newcomers) deepens our exploration of animals in ink and expands the artistic dialogue between East Asian brush techniques and your own creative intuition. Participants work with more complex approaches: atmospheric washes, dynamic movement, gesture drawing, negative space, and layered structures.

We examine how classical principles — simplicity, spontaneity, and inner balance — can be adapted to contemporary artistic practice. You will be encouraged to develop a personal style while staying connected to the “one-stroke spirit” of the Zen tradition. Motifs may include dragons (both Eastern and Western), lions and tigers, deer, cranes, crabs, or even frogs.

No previous experience is required.

Hui Song, born in Confucius’ hometown, was immersed in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy from an early age. He trained professionally in Chinese painting and mounting techniques and holds degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine and International Business.
